Some people imagine that adding hundreds of pounds of salt to your pool will turn it into the Pacific Ocean - not true! The level of saline required for chlorine generators is only about 1/10th the amount of ocean water. For comparison sake, that would be about the salt concentration of human tears. A minimum residual of approximately 2700 - 3500ppm is required for generators to work, which translates into a few hundred pounds. Sounds like alot, but relative to the ocean it's pretty minimal.
