Consistency in water care and cleaning is key to a successfully managed pool or spa. This means a disciplined regime of testing to see that there is a proper amount of chlorine residual in the water, and a balance of other chemical parameters such as pH, Alkalinity, and Hardness. Here at Spectrum we are doing this each week at our clients homes in Van Nuys. Pool service is a necessity for those who are too busy, but for those who tackle the job themselves, we also provide support. Weekly attention is basic in the summer because sanitizer levels drop significantly due to hot days and swimming. If chemistry is not rebalanced, water clarity problems result and algae begins to form. A good routine is to test at least every seven days, as well as vacuuming of the plaster suface and brushing, and netting out the leaves and debris. Also, clean out the skimmer and pump baskets - and autocleaner bag if you have one. Besides this, a periodic cleaning of the filter is critical for that sparkling clarity we look for. Typically filters should be serviced two times a year, but more often if high use. When in doubt, rely on the pressure gauge indicator - 10psi higher than clean reading is a good rule of thumb that it needs to be serviced.
