| Santa Monica Pool Maintenance Tips
Alternative sanitizers have been discussed within our industry statewide and between clients for years. Many homeowners are concerned about the health of the water they swim in, and take advantage of the latest developments. Here in Santa Monica, pool maintenance is no different as we seek to achieve the same quality swimming experience in our pools and spas. In the past, Ozone was touted as an alternate technology that would eliminate the use of all forms of sanitizer. Unstable oxygen 03 molecule creates an oxidizing effect in the water - a very effective oxidizer indeed when in proper doses. However those systems were typically too small to do all the work alone, and so it never captured the marketplace; salt-water systems have now taken their place. This new approach to chlorination seems to be very popular and effective at minimizing obnoxious byproducts that standard liquid and dry chlorine introduce to pool water. This new system essentially produces pure gaseous chlorine in the swimming pool circulation system by converting a concentration of saline into hypochlorous acid- a disinfecting agent. This is accomplished by passing the pool water through an electrolytic cell with an electrical current - simple, but it works. The enjoyable effects are clearly felt as the water is softer and without that sticky dryness that occurs in typical pools and spas. Keep in mind however that with the benefits come the initial expense of installation as well as quartely cell-cleaning and the periodic addition of saline to replenish the water when it runs low. But the benefits do outweigh the costs for many of our clients, as it has become very popular alternative for water treatment.
