Today there are still many older generations heaters still working beautifully to warm up our pools and spas. We've evolved from simple millivolt technology (with free-standing gas pilots) to electronic spark-ignition and lo-nox style pool heaters equipped with a Hot Surface Ignitor that fires the furnace. So many technological changes happen in our industry that we find ourselves in constant training. These heaters were quickly dubbed "Lo-Nox", and all manufacturers had to retool their plants and produce higher efficient systems that were affordable and competitive technologically. We recommend that you keep a heater that can be repaired as long as the fee is reasonable; and to replace a heater when necessary. Sometimes it becomes necessary because the cabin rusts out due to water exposure. This does present a fire opportunity becuase debris and leaves under the heater can ignite and spread.
