Nomenclature is sometimes confusing when speaking about saline or chlorine generation. Essentially, a salt system produces pure chlorine gas that replaces sodium chloride typically introduced to the pool by hand. A conversion system mounts near the timeclock and attaches to the plumbing. It delivers small amounts of disinfectant in the water at the same time eliminating unwanted byproducts that are part and parcel of liquid, granular and tablet forms or chlorine. As the most common and effective sanitizing agent, chlorine is used within safe tolerances to clarify water of contaminants. It oxidizes algae and kills pathogens, and effectively proviides a comfortable and healthy swimming experience. Salinization systems however take it one step further by eliminating the irritation to skin, hair and eyes that come wiht prepackaged oxidizers. The idea is simple: a chemical gas - hypochlorous acid - is automatically generated in small doses at the electrolytic cell that is plumbed discretely into the pvc at the equipment station, and viola, clean and clear swimming pool water.
